Member Rights

Active Member:

Description:

Any person who is professionally engaged in translating, interpreting or closely related work; is a resident of Iowa or who maintains full-time employment as a translator or interpreter in the State of Iowa; and meets at least one of the active member qualification criteria as determined by resolution of the board of directors is eligible for active membership. Active members maintain their status so long as they certify their eligibility annually when their membership is renewed.


Rights:

  • Right to attend any IITA meeting
  • Right to receive reduced rates for IITA sponsored events and programs
  • Right to vote for the Board of Directors
  • Right to hold IITA office
  • Right to serve on the IITA Board of Directors
  • Right to serve on all the IITA committees
  • Right to chair any non-board IITA committee

Associate Member:

Description:

Any person who is a resident of Iowa or who maintains full-time employment as a translator or interpreter in the State of Iowa who does not meet all of the requirements of active membership but who desires to further the objectives of the organization is eligible for associate membership. Upon further qualification, an associate member may become an active member.


Rights:

  • Right to attend any IITA meeting
  • Right to receive reduced rates for IITA sponsored events and programs
  • Right to hold IITA office
  • Right to serve on the IITA Board of Directors
  • Right to serve on all the IITA committees

Corresponding Member :

Description:

Any person who is not a resident of Iowa but who desires to further the objectives of the organization is eligible for corresponding membership.


Rights:

  • Right to attend any IITA meeting
  • Right to receive reduced rates for IITA sponsored events and programs

Student Member :

Description:

Any person who is a full-time student, or any person enrolled part-time in translation or interpreting, foreign language or related course of study, at the undergraduate or graduate level, shall be eligible for student membership. A person may not retain student membership status for more than a four-year period. Only Iowa residents enrolled at an out-of-state accredited postsecondary institution, or students enrolled at an accredited postsecondary institution in the State of Iowa are eligible for student membership..


Rights:

Student Members pay reduced dues but enjoy all the rights and

privileges of Associate Members except:

  • Right to hold IITA Office
  • Right to serve on the Board of Directors
  • Right to serve on IITA committees

Honorary Member Rights:

Honorary membership may be conferred upon individuals who have distinguished themselves in the translation or interpretation professions by a vote of two-thirds (2/3) of the board of directors. The total number of living honorary members shall not exceed ten (10) at any one time, and not more than two (2) may be elected in any one (1) year.

Life Member Rights:

Life members enjoy the rights and privileges of the class of membership (Active, Associate, or Corresponding) that they had when accepted as Life members.
